While in Mexico I am producing a series of abstract paintings, my subject is one of the most iconic buildings and religious symbols of Santa Ana - The Chapel of El Tepeyac. Below is a collection of photography and photos of my drawings.
Inside the building is a shrine dedicated to Guadalupe (Mary), with framed photos and a statue.
On December 12th each year hundreds of people from Santa Ana make their way to the top of the hill for their special celebration.
Built on the hill top of Bugambilias, this ornate little building looks over the city, with a look out built below.
I choose this building because it is an icon and symbol to the people of Santa Ana where I am living and working, in respect and remembrance to them.
From my room I can view the building overlooking the city, it seems like it is only 300 metres away up the hill.
I have now visited the hill top many times - taking photography, and making drawings, as the people of Santa Ana visit and pay their respect on their way back down the hill to home.
Back in my little studio I abstract the images by photocopying them, cutting them out, rearranging them. I then use all my images as reference in the process of abstract painting.
